Heavenly Gondola Takes a Tumble! When Will the Slopes Be Open Again?

by | Jan 7, 2024 | Winter/Spring/Fall, Featured, Winter Activities

Bummer alert for skiers and snowboarders! It’s a chilly holiday season at Heavenly Gondola Resort, as they’ve temporarily closed due to unexpected mechanical issues with their main lift.

Since Heavenly Gondola is the only lift currently operating out of Heavenly Village, this comes as a bit of a downer for those eager to hit the slopes. Good news is, Stagecoach base is now operating for this season.

No Estimated Date for Reopening Yet

The resort broke the news on their social media, explaining that the problem lies with “one of the bearings in the high-speed shaft.” They’re actively working with the manufacturer to secure replacement parts, but unfortunately, there’s no estimated arrival date at this time.

We know this is frustrating for many who planned their winter escapades around Heavenly Resort.

However, the resort reassured that the resort team is collaborating closely with the manufacturer to get everything fixed as soon as possible before reopening.

As of now, there’s no concrete timeline for when the Gondola will be operational again.

Here’s the latest update from Heavenly resort from their socials:

“GONDOLA UPDATE: The good news is that if all goes according to plan, we’ll have the Gondola operating again this week. Once the bearings are replaced, we’ll have to spin it for some tests before we can get guests back on it. In the meantime, we still have two main mountain access points open at California Base and Stagecoach Base, and we’re working hard to get enough snow on Boulder. A foot of snow was a huge help getting more of the mountain open, and we’re adding even more throughout the week. We’ll keep you posted with our progress – we’re grateful for your patience and understanding.”

In the meantime, you can still access the mountain through the California Base and Stagecoach Base. And hey, why not explore other options? Kirkwood and Northstar are fantastic alternatives for skiing and shredding!

Kirkwood boasts the highest base elevation in Tahoe, promising legendary snow and challenging terrain for experts. Think exhilarating tree runs, heart-pounding moguls, and hidden powder stashes waiting to be discovered.

While for a more family-friendly vibe, Northstar shines with its beginner-friendly slopes, expansive groomed runs, and a charming village buzzing with shops, restaurants, and even an ice rink.

We hope this situation resolves quickly so everyone can get back to enjoying the winter wonderland that is Heavenly Resort.

In the meantime, stay tuned for updates on the Gondola repair progress, and keep an eye out for any special offers at Kirkwood and Northstar.
