Eagle Falls & Eagle Lake Trail is one of the most popular trails in the Lake Tahoe area. The trailhead is located at the end of the road, past the gate. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow. It is only 1.9 miles out and back and is a moderate hike. 

The first part of the trail goes through a dense forest with plenty of shade. The second half of the course opens up to stunning views of Mt. Shasta and Eagle Lake.

This scenic trail to the falls is relatively short but can be moderate to difficult in some areas, with a few steep sections.

Tip:  So, consider using trekking poles to assist with balance and reduce strain on your knees and legs.

To access the hiking route from Tahoe City to Eagle Falls, go south on Highway 89 for about 16 miles to the Eagle Falls Picnic Area. It is directly across Emerald Bay State Park.

The picnic area has a parking lot, restrooms, and picnic tables. From the parking lot, take the trailhead that leads to the falls.

As you travel along the trail, approximately a quarter of a mile in, you will come to some wonderful stone stairs built directly into the rock face.

These stairs will take you to a higher elevation, where you can enjoy even more spectacular views.

Then, for another quarter mile, you’ll see the wonders of Eagle Falls. If you don’t want to hike up to Eagle Lake, you can turn around and head back to the trailhead.
