The Granlibakken Tahoe Ski Resort offers a genuine Tahoe experience. Extreme tobogganers back in the 1940’s discovered the ideal hill, hidden at 6,350 feet in the Sierra Nevada forest.
All bets were off when these daredevils discovered they could siphon water from a nearby spring to build an icy-fast speed slide. Kjell “Rusty” Rustad, a Norwegian ski jumper, gave the hill Granlibakken its Norwegian name, “hill shaded by trees,” in the 1940s.
For years, record-breaking ski jumpers from around the world would go to the location, rapidly gaining the moniker “Olympic Hill.” He leased the valley and built ski jumps, toboggan runs, and cross-country skiing trails there.
These days, Granlibakken Tahoe, is a well-known conference location, lodge, and resort. It aims to unite people in order for them to connect, work together, and have fun.
Generations of skiers and snowboarders continue to earn their stripes on the legendary slope, and its well-known ski and sledding area continues to create memories for many.
Granlibakken Tahoe’s wide variety of on-site hotel options, ski hill, and laid-back atmosphere will make your trip to Tahoe unforgettable!
“Great resort for families, but rooms could use an update,” shared by a satisfied guest who commends the resort’s family-friendly atmosphere and abundance of activities. While the rooms in the main lodge were comfortable, they suggest that a renovation could enhance the overall experience.
Ski and Sled Hill
The region’s historic ski and sled hill, as well as a well-liked ski and board school, are all existing at Granlibakken Tahoe Ski Resort.
“Fantastic long weekend getaway during the “Big Blizzard” of 2024.” A guest shares their exciting experience during a snowy weekend at Granlibakken Tahoe.
Despite limited activities due to the snowstorm, the abundance of fresh powder made for an exhilarating skiing adventure.
Granlibakken’s perfect-sized ski hill is ideal for every skill level. It comes with a complete rental shop and a warming hut on the property.
You can also learn skiing at their ski school. Their ski school is top-notch, and you can be sure that you’ll be receiving the best instruction possible.
The ski and sled hill at Granlibakken is reachable by two surface lifts. The “bunny slope” for beginners is reached via a rope tow. The resort uses a Poma button lift to access the intermediate slope.
Unlike chairlifts, which normally transport skiers and snowboarders all the way to the top of the slope, surface lifts offer a unique option to quit the lift halfway up the slope.
This is perfect for novices because they may advance to higher and steeper slopes as their abilities improve.
