The Journey to Picnic Rock Viewpoint Trail

To begin your journey to Picnic Rock Viewpoint Trail, you can start heading up the dirt trail until you reach the sign for Tahoe Rim Trail. Once you reach the sign, follow the trail until you reach Picnic Rock.

Then, you will only be trekking a small portion of the 165-mile Lake Tahoe basin.

The winding track slowly ascends through the woodland, switchbacks providing a way up for hikers. The scenery changes as you climb, and the air gets fresher the higher you go. It’s a challenging but rewarding hike to the top.

At 1.2 miles, you’ll reach the intersection of the main path and an offshoot route to the left. To reach the viewpoint, follow the directions by taking this left route.

 At this point, the route becomes steeper and more challenging to climb, but it’s just a short distance to a series of rock formations where you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Crest. From here, you can see for miles in every direction, and it’s an incredible experience you won’t soon forget.
