Confessions of a local
I grew up in Kings Beach, so walking to the mini-golf and grabbing a burger at the Char Pit was a highlight of my teenage years. Naturally, I am going to recommend that experience! I also favor the Magic Carpet Golf in Carnelian Bay, as they have The Adams Family pinball machine, which is an all-time favorite of mine.

Planning Your Visit
Crafting your perfect visit to one of Lake Tahoe’s mini-golf courses requires ensuring you are up at the lake in the right season. Read on to learn more about these planning aspects.
Best Times to Visit
While Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place to visit year-round, optimal mini-golf experiences occur between June and September. The weather is pleasant during these Summer and early Fall months, and the days are longer. June and July are the busiest months, with a significant influx of tourists. Consider hitting the mini-golf greens in early June or late September for a less-crowded visit. It’s worth noting that all of the mini-golf courses close when snowfall hits, typically around mid-October.
Tips for Families and Groups
Planning a visit with family or friends? Keep these strategies in mind.
- Restrict Your Group Size: While bringing everyone along is tempting, courses often limit playing groups to four to keep the game moving.
- Stay Hydrated: Lake Tahoe’s sun can be potent, especially in summer. Always carry water and bring electrolytes to stay refreshed during games.
- Dress Comfortably: Mini golf involves a lot of standing and walking, so ensure you wear comfortable footwear and clothing.
- Consider Course Themes: With unique themes available across mini-golf courses, choose a venue that best suits your group’s interests. For instance, Magic Carpet Golf’s prehistoric and pirate themes appeal to kids, whereas Kings Beach Miniature Golf’s traditional course suits traditionalists.
- Plan Beyond Golf: Remember to plan non-golf activities. Plan to go to the beach across the street, bring some snacks, and enjoy your day.
- Check Age Restrictions: Always check age restrictions at courses if you’re with children. Some venues may have different courses based on age groups or height restrictions.
With these considerations, you’re better prepared for a beautiful, fun-filled day of mini-golf at Lake Tahoe.
Have fun playing mini-golf during your Lake Tahoe trip!
So there you have it. Adding mini-golf to your Lake Tahoe vacation is a family-friendly relaxing activity. Plan your visit between June and September for the best experience. And remember, it’s not just about the golf. It’s about creating memorable experiences with your loved ones. So stay hydrated, consider the course themes, and make the most of your visit.
