El Dorado Beach Tahoe
This is an ideal South Lake Tahoe beach for families with young children. There is a well-defined swimming area that is perfect for kids, as it has shallow water and is roped off from the rest of the beach.
This makes it a safe place for little ones to splash around and have fun. Be aware that past the roped-off area, the water deepens sharply as there are underwater cliffs.
Personal Story
I personally will tell you one of the scariest moments of my life was as a summer camp counselor in Lake Tahoe.
Unlike in the movies, drowning people don’t make a fuss or make any noise. I had walked with other counselors and a group of pre-teen campers out to the edge of the underwater cliffs.
Another counselor and I just happened to look down and see the blue eyes of one of the pre-teens looking up at us as he was sinking off the edge of the cliff. We grabbed him and pulled him up.
He was shaken but fine, he didn’t make a splash or any noise.
Stay away from underwater cliffs!
Boating and Amenities
El Dorado Beach in Lake Tahoe is also ideal for boaters because it has a boat launch that can accommodate motorized and non-motorized vessels. Make sure that you have your motorized watercraft inspected at one of the inspection stations first, or you will not be allowed to launch.

After a long day of swimming and playing in the sand, you can take a break and eat at the food stand. It offers a variety of snacks and sweet treats for children. So, everyone can find something they’ll enjoy.
There are also accessible restrooms to freshen up and wash away some sea salt.
This stunning beach also has two parking lots that can accommodate visitors during the summer season, when the place is at its busiest.
